Data & Accuracy Policy
TransferGauge is dedicated to transparent, objective cross-border money transfer comparisons. This document explains how we collect, calculate, verify, and maintain our comparison data.
1. What "Indicative" Means on TransferGauge
All exchange rates, transfer fees, recipient payouts, and delivery estimates displayed on TransferGauge are indicative benchmarks and modelled estimates. They are designed to give consumers a reliable baseline for comparing the relative costs, speed, and transparency of different providers.
Indicative data is not a live contractual quote. Real-world currency exchange rates fluctuate second-by-second in global interbank markets. Furthermore, provider fee schedules vary depending on the funding mechanism (e.g., bank ACH debit vs. debit card vs. wire), recipient payout rail (bank account vs. UPI vs. cash pickup), transaction size tiers, and individual customer verification status.
2. How Provider Information Is Sourced
TransferGauge sources provider fee models, foreign exchange rate margins, and delivery capabilities through rigorous, systematic research:
- Official Fee Schedules & Calculators: We analyze publicly published fee schedules, pricing disclosures, and quote calculators provided by licensed remittance companies.
- Standardized Scenario Benchmarks: We sample quotes across representative amounts (e.g., $500, $1,000, $5,000, $10,000) for each supported corridor, using standardized payment and payout rails to ensure apples-to-apples comparisons.
- Regulatory Filings & Terms: We examine regulatory filings, customer terms of service, and safeguarding disclosures to verify provider licenses and fund protection mechanisms.
- Direct Platform Audits: Our research team audits provider web platforms and mobile applications to verify actual user flows, payment fee surcharges, and verification constraints.
3. How Benchmark Data Is Constructed
Every benchmark calculation in our engine is constructed from authoritative, transparent parameters:
- Mid-Market Exchange Rate: The neutral, midpoint rate between wholesale buy and sell rates in international currency markets. This serves as the zero-markup reference point.
- Foreign Exchange Margin (Spread): The percentage difference between the provider's offered exchange rate and the wholesale mid-market rate. This reveals the hidden cost of the transfer.
- Upfront Transfer Fee: The explicit transaction fee charged by the provider for the specified payment method and transfer amount.
- Estimated Recipient Payout: Calculated deterministically based on whether the provider deducts fees from the send amount or charges fees on top of the transfer.
- Total Estimated Cost: The complete economic cost to the user, calculated as:
Total Cost = Upfront Fee + (Send Amount × FX Margin %)
4. Review Frequency & Data Verification
We review benchmark data on a regular cycle. Every provider profile, corridor rate table, and comparison benchmark displays its review date or last verified date.
Because our current MVP operates on curated indicative benchmarks rather than direct live broker APIs, we explicitly mark all benchmark data with an INDICATIVE status badge. We do not claim that indicative benchmarks represent live real-time feeds.
5. Why Actual Provider Pricing Can Differ
When you navigate to a provider's website or app to execute a transfer, your final quote may differ from our benchmark due to several real-world factors:
- Intraday FX Volatility: Exchange rates move continuously during open market hours. Rates can change between the time you view TransferGauge and when you complete your transaction.
- Payment Rail Surcharges: Paying by debit card, credit card, or instant bank transfer may incur processor surcharges that differ from standard ACH or bank debit baselines.
- Promotional & First-Time Rates: Some providers offer promotional exchange rates (e.g., zero fees or reduced margins) on a new customer's first transfer. Our benchmarks reflect standard, recurring retail rates unless explicitly labeled otherwise.
- Tiered Volume Pricing: High-value transfers (e.g., over $10,000 or $50,000) often qualify for negotiated wholesale spreads or reduced percentage fees.
- Intermediary Bank Charges: For traditional international wire transfers, intermediary or correspondent banks may deduct handling fees from the payout before arrival.
6. How TransferGauge Handles Unavailable Data
We never invent provider fee economics. If a provider does not support a specific corridor, sending amount, or receiving method:
- The provider is excluded from the comparison for that specific query, OR
- If a published corridor pricing tier exists, an indicative scaled estimate is clearly marked with a Scaled badge and an explanatory note, OR
- An explicit Insufficient Data / Unavailable status is presented to the user.
7. Obligation to Confirm Final Quote with Provider
Important Consumer Verification Notice
TransferGauge is an independent informational comparison tool. We do not execute transactions, lock exchange rates, or collect transfer funds. You must always review the binding exchange rate, fee summary, delivery timeline, and terms directly on the provider's official checkout screen before authorizing payment.
8. How to Report Inaccuracies
We welcome corrections from remitters, providers, and researchers. If you identify an outdated fee, an inaccurate rate spread, a broken link, or an unlisted receiving rail, please report it immediately:
Reported discrepancies are reviewed by our research team within 2 to 3 business days.
