Understand what dictates the delivery speed of your remittance to India, from fast UPI credits to domestic ACH bank processing times.

What Dictates Transfer Speed?

The total duration required for money to reach India from abroad is determined by three independent stages:

  1. Funding Clearing Time: How quickly your local money leaves your bank account and reaches the provider.
  2. Compliance & Verification: Standard automated fraud prevention, sanctions scanning, and AML checks.
  3. Destination Settlement Rail: Final deposit via UPI, IMPS, NEFT, or cash collection counter in India.

Why Weekend & Holiday Delays Happen

India's retail payment infrastructure—including IMPS (Immediate Payment Service) and UPI (Unified Payments Interface)—operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Delays almost never occur on the Indian side of the transaction. Rather, delays stem from clearing systems in the originating country. For example, the United States Automated Clearing House (ACH) network does not process transactions on weekends or federal banking holidays. A transfer initiated on Friday afternoon may not clear until Tuesday morning.
